Leaving the Left (Addendum)

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has been accused of raping a teenage girl when he himself was seventeen years old. Anyone with a history of recent SCOTUS appointments remembers how the Left tried to smear Clarence Thomas with similar accusations. The pattern is clear, and in my humble opinion, revolting. That Dianne Feinstine held onto the accusation for weeks without saying anything about it suggests that she either doubted the veracity of the complaint, and/or she was saving it for a more desperate hour.

So the left politicized and criminalized the Supreme Court nomination hearings. Their logic – such as it is – is that the existence of a claim is proof of the claim. No presumption of innocence here. The presumption is that Kavanaugh is guilty. Never mind that there is no corroborating evidence. That is right – none. Not even a shred. In fact, people wrote in to dispute Dr. Ford, not in support of her. The only evidence that exists after her testimony is evidence that she may have perjured herself.

The elephant in the room no one is mentioning is Roe v. Wade. The Left fears Roe v. Wade will be overturned if Kavanaugh is appointed. This may be an empty fear. Kavanaugh is a Constitutionalist, and he may see Roe v. Wade as a precedent to be respected and upheld. Or he may not. Whatever view Kavanaugh has of Roe v. Wade, he is qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. There is no question about that.

The same was true of Clarence Thomas. Having no choice but to nominate him, the Left resorted to smearing him. Thomas fought back and won, but it was a harrowing trial: a public smearing, a dirty trick. I remember writing Justice Thomas after he was sworn into the SCOTUS. He was gracious enough to write back and thank me.

Kavanaugh is now a Supreme Court Justice. I’m not planning to write him. Whatever his views on Roe v. Wade, he is qualified to be on the Court. What the Left did to him is disgusting. It makes me feel physically sick. They presume to be the arbiters of morality and virtue. They are neither.

Why did I leave the Left? Look at their tactics. Who would want to be associated with people like that? Not me.
